The starting point of the marked trail is in Abländschen. The chalet village belonging to the municipality of Saanen at 1,320 meters impresses with its view of the limestone pillars of the Gastlosen range. The impressive, rugged limestone mountains feature vertical rock faces over 300 meters high in places.

The snowshoe trail to the Grubenberghütte starts at the winter car park Birematte, above Abländschen. This can be reached on foot from the restaurant Zitbödeli via the winter hiking trail (+ 0.75 miles). From the starting point Birematte, follow the marker poles across spacious meadows up to Alp Undere Ruedersberg.

Then the route leads up the snow-covered road to the Mittelberg pass (1635 m above sea level) and from there the remaining 200 vertical meters steeply up to the Grubenberghütte. The hut at the foot of the Gastlosen range is open all year round but in winter only staffed as needed. What it always has to offer in suitable weather: a fantastic view that extends from the Bernese Alps across the Wildhorn massif to the peaks of the Pays d'Enhaut.
