Sustainability & Safety: Responsible Grilling

A barbecue in the great outdoors is one of the most wonderful summer experiences. To keep it that way—and to preserve the alpine landscape for future generations—it's essential to treat nature with care. By following a few simple guidelines, you actively contribute to protecting our environment while ensuring a safe and enjoyable grilling experience.

Grill only at designated fire pits

Officially designated and maintained fire pits not only provide greater comfort but also enhance safety. Open fires outside these areas are prohibited and can cause significant damage.

Keep an eye on the risk of forest fires

During extended dry spells, even a small spark can cause major damage. Up-to-date information on the wildfire risk in the Canton of Bern is available at www.waldbrandgefahr.ch. When the danger level is high, a total fire ban applies in many areas — including at official fire pits.

Take your rubbish with you

Trash and food scraps don’t belong in nature. It’s best to always bring a small garbage bag and take everything back with you. This way, the barbecue spot stays a pleasant place for guests who come after you. The rule is simple: Leave No Trace — leave nothing behind.
