Simple, flat, sunny. Preferably surrounded by untouched nature and, if possible, also with a great view. Those who imagine cross-country skiing like this will like this trail in Lauenen. The picturesque mountain village of Lauenen with its old wooden houses and the venerable church from the 16th century lies just a stone's throw from the ski resort of Gstaad, where busy activity takes place in winter. Those wishing for cross-country skiing amid unspoiled landscapes will find the right place here, in one of the five side valleys of the well-known holiday region.
At the end of the village, at Hotel Alpenland, the cross-country ski trail begins. It runs along the Louwibach through the snowy, sunny moor and floodplain area Rohr. The consistently flat trail is adorned with so-called Tristen. These are large, conical haystacks stacked around a long wooden pole and traditionally stored this way. In winter attire, they offer a wonderful sight.
The trail is especially suitable for beginners and enthusiasts. There is a longer and a shorter loop to choose from, always accompanied by the impressive mountain backdrop with the towering Spitzhorn. With some luck, you may encounter a passing husky team or a horse-drawn carriage.
