Welcome to the land of counts, knights, and castles. A time long ago, yet still very close to many during their childhood. The Obersimmental is a beautiful landscape with a historic heart. The two former castles on Mannenberg and the parish church of Zweisimmen testify to its great importance. Historians suspect that a castle already sat on Mannenberg in the Early Middle Ages and was the center of power when Simmental still belonged to the Burgundian royal estate.

The Iron Knight at the Zweisimmen train station marks the beginning of a journey through a landscape full of stories. Finally reaching Mannenberg, the restored ruins of Mannenberg Castle evoke the world of the Middle Ages. The 18 panels along the long castle trail enrich personal memories with exciting information about the individual places and buildings of that time. Additionally, it leads via Grubenwald and Steinegg along the historical route back to Obegg / Zweisimmen.
