Ice climbing

Ice climbing on frozen waterfalls is far more than just a counterpart to sport climbing on rock. Climbing up glistening ice cascades and pillars, hanging only by the prongs of ice tools and crampons, is a high alpine adventure in itself. It also serves as training for steep ice tours.

  • Suitable for trained climbers
  • Time frame: Between November and March depending on ice conditions
  • General overview: Les Diablerets (Col du Pillon, near the waterfall), Geltenschuss (near Lake Lauenen), Tungelschuss (near Lake Lauenen), Burgfälle (Gsteig)
  • Note: Only in the company of a local guide
