«Saaner Proms» - concerts

20.06.2025 , Friday

The men's choir “Echo vom Olden” was founded in October 1845 and is the oldest association in the region.

After the sermon, four craftsmen who had returned from abroad sang “Verglüht sind schon die Sterne” by Kreutzer in front of the church in Saanen. They were the Kohli brothers and von Grünigen. Four-part singing was unknown in the region at the time. The four immediately found companions and founded the men's choir.

For 130 years, the men's choir has been performing Johann Jakob Romang's play “Der Castellan von Saanen”, which tells the story of the Saanen people's ransom from the Counts of Gruyères. The play is performed every 25 years so that every generation knows the story and gains an insight into the turbulent past of our region.

The play was first staged as open-air theater in 2024. The shortened new version, directed by the open-air theater association Sannenland and “Alpenkomedie” Gsteig, with the participation of the men's choir “Echo vom Olden” and the SAC section “Oldenhorn” was a great success in all respects.

We sang songs in various languages and styles. The Advent concert, sermon singing and two or three other performances are part of our annual program. All men who enjoy singing are welcome to join us.
