When the first tourists came to Gstaad in 1905 with the newly built railway line, this was also the beginning of a miraculous transformation of the farming village into a world-class health resort. In the years that followed, numerous hotels were built, including the world-famous Palace Hotel and half a dozen boarding schools. This is how the world came to Gstaad. More than almost any other tourist region, Gstaad has managed to harmonise cosmopolitanism and authenticity while remaining true to itself and its architectural style. Through the stories of the past, the development of this unique village is shown and the soul of its inhabitants, who have always believed in the potential of their village, can be felt in the pictures.
