The medium-difficulty route for National Hiking Day 2026 starts in the village of Gstaad and heads initially towards Oberbort. You’ll walk along pleasant paths past elegant Gstaad chalets, enjoying lovely views back towards the village and the valley. You soon leave Gstaad behind and begin the ascent into the Turbach Valley – this section is quite steep and gets you moving without being too demanding.

Once you arrive in the idyllic Turbach Valley, one of the region’s quieter side valleys opens up, characterised by wide meadows, scattered farmsteads and gentle slopes. The route winds its way through the open countryside, with only a few shaded sections through the woods. The path then follows a road back down towards the valley floor and the Turbach. After crossing to the other side of the valley, you hike leisurely back towards Gstaad. On the way, you pass the Wasserngratbahn valley station, where a beautiful view opens up of both the surrounding mountains and down towards Gstaad.

A particular highlight is the stop at the Gstaad Cheese Grotto with its striking XXL fondue pot. The trail then leads down to the valley floor and along the Louibach back to the Gstaad promenade, where the hike comes to an atmospheric conclusion.
