The long route for National Hiking Day 2026 starts in Gstaad and heads initially towards Schönried. Before long, the path opens out into the countryside: you’ll walk leisurely up the valley along wide paths through lush meadows where cows graze. The peaceful surroundings encourage conversation as the path gradually gains altitude. Those who turn around are rewarded with an impressive view back towards Gstaad – including one of the region’s most striking landmarks, the Gstaad Palace – before reaching Schönried. From here, you follow the well-known Panoramaweg towards Saanenmöser. After a short climb to the Chessler, a magnificent view opens up over the valley and the surrounding mountain peaks. Soon you begin the return journey. The high-altitude trail above Schönried offers ever-changing perspectives of the vast landscape. The XXL Fondue Caquelon offers the perfect opportunity for a short stop. The trail then leads steadily downhill back to Gstaad. The views along this Panoramaweg are unbeatable. You then walk back to Gstaad – onto the promenade with its lively atmosphere, past beautiful chalets and small shops, where the tour comes to an atmospheric end.
