The starting point of this popular panoramic hike is the parking lot at the Sparenmoos mountain lodge. Across alpine pastures, which belong to the inventory of moorlands of national importance and special beauty called "Sparenmoos," the hiking trail gently ascends – always with a view towards the Hundsrügg.
In the mountain spring, when the wet meadows are bursting with orchids, the chance of spotting black grouse is high. In the mountain summer, the many Simmental cattle show that the Nüjeberg is an alpine cultural landscape created by mountain farmers. From Läuber to Hürli, the narrow path runs along the mountainside. The view upwards to Stockhorn, Gantrisch, and Ochse clearly shows how the Simmental valley bends. A glance at the ground is also worthwhile, as the whole hike lies in an edelweiss and porcini mushroom hotspot.
At Hürli awaits the "prime cut" of the panoramic trail. The panoramic view from the last hut by the roadside (occasionally staffed) grows richer with every step by a few more peaks. With the Wildstrubel on the left and the Gastlosen chain on the right, the path winds up to the Hundsrügg. This place can easily tell new stories about panorama, flora, and geology every day. In clear weather, the view opens over the Euschel Pass into the Jura mountains. From afar, Mont Blanc, Eiger, and on the far left even the Matterhorn greet you. Hundsrügg and Matterhorn are geologically related. Both were pushed northward during the Alpine formation by the African continental plate. The geological "Préalpes," which include Hundsrügg, are very rich in flowers. A break is recommended on the Hundsrügg with its panoramic view of 427 peaks.
The path continues southwest toward the Erbetlaubgrat. According to legend, the Simmentalers, Saaners, and Jauners celebrated wild mountain festivals here after the plague. Today, the Erbetlaub lake is a popular photo motif. After the descent to the Luegle pass, the trail branches left and there are a few forest sections. From Schiltenegg, the path gently descends back to the starting point at the Sparenmoos mountain lodge. Along the way, you pass some alpine huts where Bernese alpine cheese PDO is produced.
