The most beautiful sun terraces in the holiday region of Gstaad

The warming sun on your face, a glittering snowy landscape and lofty peaks around you, a refreshing drink in your hand – a relaxing stop also belongs to a day on the slopes! On these terraces in and around Gstaad, you can really enjoy the winter views.

A Feast for the Palate on the Wasserngrat

Whether with or without skis, the Wasserngrat is something for pleasure-seekers! The sun terrace of the cosy rustic restaurant invites you to come soak up the sun and feast. At the latest, when the meringue-filled “Holzgepsi” is served and the fine “Berg-Nidle” (mountain cream) is added, you feel right at home here and don’t want to go back to the valley again. On the Wasserngrat, they place a lot of emphasis on high-quality regional products, just as in Restaurant 16eme in Saanen. It’s worth making a reservation in either place!

Our tip for all skiers and snowboarders with good edges: after the feast for your palate, glance over at Gstaad again and then race down the Tiger Run. Did you know it’s the steepest slope in the holiday region of Gstaad?

"Pasatiempo" on the Saanersloch

From Gstaad it’s off to the Saanersloch ski area. Pasatiempo offers the perfect sunset at the snow bar on the way from Saanerslochgrat towards Saanenwald (run 24). It offers a terrace with loungers, relaxing music, an easy-going atmosphere and a breathtaking view, making it the perfect place to relax, just as the name implies. On the menu, you will find homemade beer from Gstaad hops (ask for Pasabier!), homemade pizza and apparently the best “Käseschnitte” in the region. With all the good food around, don’t forget that you need to ski back down. We already know that once you are here, you hope that the day will never end.

Two on the Eggli

The Eggli is the Gstaad mountain par excellence for pleasure this winter. Not only the mountain top restaurant with its big sun terrace attracts guests but also the Eggli Lounge. It offers sunny seats with a wonderful view onto the surrounding mountains and an inviting savoury menu. If you want to indulge in culinary delights, here is the right place. In the mountain restaurant delicious meals are served along with a fine glass of wine. The Eggli Lounge not only offers a wind-protected terrace but also a stylish bar with excellent drinks and smaller meals.

Located directly across from the mountain top station of the Eggli cable car, the mountain restaurant and lounge are also wonderfully suited for non-skiers, winter hikers or all those who want to grab a bite to eat before a toboggan ride.

Ritz Bar St. Stephan

If you ski down from Parwengensattel to St. Stephan, make sure not to miss taking a detour to the cosy Ritz Bar. Whether “Chäsbrätel”, a Ritz platter with regional specialties or a hot soup, there is something for every taste and everyone feels good in this warm atmosphere. Good to know: for groups of 10 or more people there is a fondue or raclette special in the evenings. No worries, no need to ski down in the dark because the Ritz hut next door has rooms with many beds and warmly welcomes its guests.

Moosbar Schönried

On the winter hike towards Saanenmöser you will find the small and cosy Moosbar. Dress warm because the bar is outdoors. If you are cold, you can warm up with a mulled wine. Located next to the cross-country ski trail, it’s the perfect spot to get some extra energy after cross-country skiing.

Funi Gstaad

In the Gstaad Promenade, directly across from Posthotel Rössli, an old funicular, that’s how people got to the slopes in old times, was converted into a bar. Our tip: the hot apple mulled cider is addicting!

Kuhstall Schönried

Après-ski or simply a delicious “Kaffee-Schnaps” are available at the Kuhstall. The former stables were renovated and now offer a wind-protected sun terrace plus a place to sit down and relax. It’s about a 5-minute walk up the slope from the Horneggli valley station.
