The Swiss Orienteering Week is an international multi-day orienteering event that combines holidays with sport and a pinch of adventure.
During the week about 3,000 orienteers will be competing in 52 different categories. Participants from over 30 nations will combine their sporting demands with holidays on both sides of the language border.
Swiss O Week 2019 with its six orienteering stages will provide a special experience in a sportlike way. On the opening day the competitors may expect an exciting sprint in Gstaad, which will be followed by two stages, situated north of Col du Pillon. After the rest day, the three next stages will take place on the Hornberg, in Rougemont and on the Eggli for the final.
At every of the six stages runners will start in fifty-two different age and performance classes, what will last over four hours each day. For that participants will reach the competition area a transport concept, agreed with the Montreux-Berner Oberland Railway (MOB), PostBus and chairlifts, will be implemented. SOW registration fee includes all transports during the competition week. Participants can use all public transport between Zweisimmen - Gstaad - Château-d'Oex and between Gstaad - Gsteig/Lauenen without restriction, including the special courses on stages 2 and 3 to Col du Pillon, the chairlifts to stages 4 and 6 as a free ride up to Glacier 3000.
The SOW 2019 doesn't just mean orienteering - after the daily competition, and on the day of rest, too, the participants and entourage are able to share tourist and cultural activities. The websites of the destination Gstaad and Pays-d'Enhaut invite to do so at any time - the destinations offering that SOW participants like to discover next August.
