Pieces of Art in Gstaad

The high-quality art offering in the destination is also reflected in the existing sculptures. Some of Gstaad’s most well-known regular guests have paid homage to the region with very special art objects.

Oscar winner Julie Andrews has been closely associated with Gstaad since decades. As a thank you for her honorary citizenship, she presented the community of Saanen with the “The Sitting Duck” sculpture created by her late husband Blake Edwards.

Probably the most photographed object on the Gstaad Promenade is the drinking calf by the fountain near the Posthotel Rössli. The bronze figure “Rosie” was created by Liz Taylor’s daughter, Liza Todd.

The two graceful bronze figures at the entrance area to the St. Nikolaus Chapel were donated by Ilse and Günter Leifheit. Günter Leifheit was a co-founder of the international Menuhin Music Academy, as well as long-time chalet guest in Gstaad.

One of the showpieces of the Promenade is the village fountain. It was designed by local Fabian Reichenbach for the pedestrian zone. The fountain is a magnet for kids because of its interesting water displays.

Art in the Hotels

The art scene in Gstaad has also established itself because of the first-class collections in the hotels. One of the pioneers in this field is The Alpina Gstaad. Since its opening in 2012, its owner collected works by well-known artists from the 21st century and displayed them in the hotel. Other hotels in Gstaad also regularly present works from selected artists, for example in collaboration with the art gallery Hauser & Wirth.
