Skiing

The Destination Gstaad stands for enjoyable ski experiences on varying dream slopes. Guests here also appreciate being away from mass tourism while skiing. Not only the perfectly groomed and wide slopes make a difference. The diverse skiing areas, ranging from glacier slopes to the popular ski arena with lots of space to the steep and challenging Tiger Run also contribute to the overall experience. Thus it’s no surprise that Gstaad is known as the most diverse pleasure destination in Switzerland. This also applies to life off the slopes.

Zweisimmen-Saanenmöser-Schönried

Sun in your face, swirling snow under the edges – that’s pure pleasure. The slopes in the largest ski area of the destination are diverse and suited for all levels. The many snow bars, cosy huts and restaurants next to the slopes offer something for every taste. Additional benefit: The trip from the flatland is very relaxing thanks to the direct connection between Bern and Zweisimmen.

Gstaad-Saanen-Rougemont

Parlez-vous français? The cantonal and language barrier runs through the Eggli-La Videmanette ski area, and the charming influence of the French-speaking part of Switzerland can be felt everywhere. Skiers really get their money’s worth here, thanks to the long and varied descents. With the new Eggli Lounge and mountain restaurant, bon vivants truly feel at home on the sunny pleasure mountain Eggli.

Wasserngrat

Locals love the steep Wasserngrat, a challenging downhill slope in deep powder. The insider tip has now been revealed, but we don't want to deprive anyone of this adventure! It's also fun on the slopes. The shady slopes offer perfect conditions until late in the afternoon. Our favourite mountain for a short break from everyday stress.

Winter hiking

More and more guests are discovering winter hiking for themselves. Winding down is in and this is exactly what happens when you go hiking. The holiday region of Gstaad offers an extensive network of winter hiking trails and various panoramic trails that are guaranteed to be snow-covered. The circular trail on Eggli is worth it not only because of the rewarding culinary experience at the beautiful mountain restaurant. A brand new hiking trail has been created in the Horneggli-Hornberg region.

Lauenen – Rohr – Lauenen (circular route)

An easy, flat winter hike in the Bernese Oberland, suitable for families. It starts in Lauenen and passes through the beautiful Rohr nature conservation area, along the signposted winter hiking route. Enjoy panoramic views to your heart’s content in this stunning winter landscape, surrounded by the peaks of the Bernese Alps. A winter’s dream!

Sparenmoos – Hüsliberg – Schiltenegg – Sparenmoos

A hike with stunning views of the Simmental valley, the western Bernese Oberland and the Vaud Alps. The route encompasses both easy, relaxed sections and challenging, steep parts that call for a good level of fitness.

Eggli – front face of the Eggli – Eggli (circular route)

A pretty, circular hike on Gstaad’s local mountain, the Eggli. On the route, you can enjoy vistas of wide, open meadows and striking mountains. Ascend the Eggli on the gondola lifts, before gently heading upwards to the front face of the Eggli – while enjoying a lovely view of the imposing peaks of the Gummfluh and the Rübli. Once you’re on the front face of the Eggli, simply stay on the path until you get back to the Eggli mountain restaurant.

Tobogganing

Whiz downhill on your toboggan as you feel the driving snow on your face – if you love tobogganing then Gstaad with its nine toboggan runs is the perfect place to be. And there are several mountain restaurants and snow bars along the way where you can relax and take a break. By the way, the rental of the toboggan is already included in the toboggan day ticket!

«El Dorado for tobogganing» Hornberg – Horneggli – Saanersloch (Könner)

A wonderful toboggan ride for experienced tobogganers – the swift, serpentine descent through snowy woods will leave your heart racing! If you need to take a break mid-way, you could always stop at the Horny Bar. The Horneggli run intersects with the Hornberg run, with the route heading in the direction of Saanenmöser.

Sparenmoos run (nature, family)

The first part of the Sparenmoos run passes through flat, snowy meadows, perfect for tobogganers young and old. Those looking for a relaxed tobogganing experience can take the bus to Zweisimmen from Heimchueweid, but if you’d prefer a more adventurous option, you can take the steep route through the forest at this point.

Eggli run (leisure, family)

An enjoyable tobogganing route back into the valley from Gstaad’s local mountain, the Eggli. Ideal for families and anyone keen to see breath-taking panoramic views. The sun terrace at the Eggli mountain restaurant is the perfect spot to take a breather between enjoying the descents.

More Activities

The winter in the holiday region Gstaad offers so much more that skiing, winter hiking and tobogganing. You can explore pristine nature in fresh powder snow on touring skis or snowshoes and get your cardiovascular system going on cross-country skis.

Cross country skiing

Cross-country skiing is popular. It’s good to know that our destination offers a variety of cross-country skiing trails. Between Sparenmoos and Turbach, you can try out a new trail every day. You certainly won’t get bored during longer stays. The cross-country skiing hotspot for night owls is Schönried with the night trails that are lit up.

Ski Tours

Welcome to the ski tour paradise for lovers of nature and skiing. Besides a multitude of routes ranging from easy pre-Alps mountains to demanding high-altitude ski tours the offer also includes appealing combinations of outdoor and indoor pleasures, all of which benefit from the short access routes, i.e. ski tours combined with leisure and spa facilities or mountain and gourmet treats.

Snowshoe Hiking

The Destination Gstaad with its gently rolling landscape is ideal for snowshoe tours. Young and old alike will enjoy the easy or challenging routes through the unspoilt natural world.

Gastronomy

Whether upscale dining or a cozy mountain hut atmosphere, Gstaad has lots to offer when it comes to fine cuisine. Authentic enjoyment is most important. The possibilities are many and can already be experienced right next to the slopes. The new mountain top restaurant Eggli invites guests to enjoy the great sun terrace. On the Wasserngrat guests experience unforgettable culinary delights and Pasatiempo on the Saanerslochgrat is the best spot for hot chocolate and it has the perfect atmosphere for chilling.

Our fondue highlights

Whether it is fondue in the Hüttli, in an igloo, in the moonlight or by a warming fire in the Stübli. We reveal the best fondue experiences in Gstaad.

A daily stop in a cosy mountain pub is as much a part of a ski holiday as French fries are of mountain gastronomy. But there is much more to discover on the mountain. You can enjoy a full menu selection at the Bergrestaurant Eggli or go right next door to the new Eggli Lounge where you can enjoy après-ski in a stylish atmosphere. On the Wasserngrat, guests prefer to be pampered on the sunny terrace and the Pasatiempo on the Saanerslochgrat is the best place for hot chocolate and a chilled-out atmosphere.

Eggli, the culinary mountain

Guests arrive at the Gstaad mountain in comfort and style. The modern gondola is an eye-catcher thanks to its unusual design. Now sun-seekers can get even more excited – last winter season 2021/22 the new Eggli Lounge opened next to the mountain station. The stylish après-ski location complements the Bergrestaurant Eggli. Star chef Martin Bieri is your host on the Eggli. On sunny days, the restaurant and lounge terraces invite you to linger.

Wasserngrat

“The peak of pleasure” – as per the Wasserngrat website. That’s not promising too much. The terrace offers a nice view onto the surrounding mountains and the ski area is considered exclusive. It’s not large, but the slopes are challenging. Good skiers love the black run "Tiger Run". In the mountain restaurant guests are spoiled with sophisticated culinary delights, a culinary experience that guests will remember for a long time.

Pasatiempo

The view from the Pasatiempo snow bar is simply stunning. Those who are too fast will go down the same run again. Enjoying a fondue in the sun or relaxing with a hot chocolate in the lounge chair and listening to good sounds – such moments make the ski holidays unforgettable. It’s worth it to begin the last run of the day from the snow bar, so you can enjoy an indescribably beautiful sunset.

Culinary Delights in the Valley

With 236 GaultMillau points, Gstaad is one of the most renowned gourmet destinations in the Alps. But the gastronomy also offers down-to-earth dining. In addition to exquisite cuisines, regional dishes are not to be missed in the homely restaurants. Michel's Stallbeizli offers an incomparable view and the Bochtehuus in Lauenen offers a truly rustic atmosphere. And thanks to Fondueland Gstaad, a fine fondue can be enjoyed anywhere - outside at a place with a view or in one of the fondue huts.

Michel’s Stallbeizli

The view is unique! As you may guess from the name, the restaurant has to do something with stables. The stables with animal inhabitants are separated from the Stallbeizli by large windows. The Michel family primarily serves specialties from its own farm – regional, simple and truly delicious.

Bochtehus Beizli

As if from another world, like in a fairy tale. The enchanting winter landscape between Lauenen and Lake Lauenen is wonderfully suited to the cute Bochtehus Beizli. Simple, warming dishes are found on the menu. By the way, those you want to combine your visit with a horse-drawn sleigh ride with a stop at Bochtehus Beizli is the place to be.

Fondueland Gstaad

Winter is fondue time. In the oversized fondue pots and cosy fondue huts, cheese lovers enjoy the typical Swiss dish in a unique atmosphere. Everything you need for fondue, plus a fine cheese mixture, is part of the Fondue Backpack, which can be purchased at local dairies. Secure a spot and off you go!

Wind down in Gstaad

A stay in the midst of the wintry Gstaad mountain landscape provides a change of scenery, relaxation and lets you re-charge your batteries. After an eventful day out in the snow, the cosy atmosphere of a spa or wellness area as well as delightful culinary moments await you in a high-class restaurant.

The hotels of the destination are varied and cover everything from pleasure and wellness hotels to specialized family hotels.
