Roland Haldi, Olympic athlet 2010 from Schönried, learned how to ski and snowboard right in front of his parents' front door on the Hornberg. Since then, he had turned his passion snowboarding into his profession and had enjoyed considerable success in his sport. Although his chosen discipline took him to the most attractive winter sports regions in the world, the Gstaad Mountain Rides region is still his favourite. 

"For me, the Direttissima - which is newly called ,Mike von Grünigen Run' - on the Horneggli is a particularly brilliant piste. It has been redesigned for the 2009/10 season and runs from the Horneggli mountain station down into the village. The course is laid out in a varied way and offers lots of downhill fun to all - not just experts. Mike von Grünigen from Schönried is one of the best skisportmen in the world."
