Tour du Wildhorn - Around Gstaad's highest mountain
This high-alpine tour around the Wildhorn lasting several days takes you along well marked alpine paths and trails, over several passes between 1400 and 2900 m, and takes in lakes, rock faces, high-alpine dry landscapes, ridges and snow fields. It opens up spectacular views of the Vaud, Bernese and Valais Alps.
| Tour suitable for | Experienced mountain hikers with a good level of physical fitness. Less experienced hikers in good shape would be well advised to do the trip together with a mountain guide or hiking guide. |
| Duration / season | 4 days with daily stages of up to 6 hours, ideal from July to September |
| Highlights | Comfortable alpine huts and hostels |
| Terrain/conditions | The mountain hiking trail/mountain hike is well signposted as such. In case of fog and/or snow, the hike can turn into a delicate exercise at the blink of an eye, especially on the Valais side where the route is fairly Alpine in character (slippery limestone pavements, steep rock steps, downward sloping terrain, fixed side, ladders, etc.). In the early summer, the Valais stage of the "Tour du Wildhorn" usually features high-Alpine conditions and the majority of the route is still covered in snow. |
