Different ways of playing the game
Stroke Play
Every stroke counts, including penalty strokes. Like skiing or cycling against the clock, the best result achieved by any of the players wins. (Sum total of all played strokes and penalty strokes.)
Match Play
Match play is a direct duel: all a player has to do is achieve a lower score on any hole to win that hole. This form is comparable to tennis or parallel slalom. In match play, each hole is a match in itself. The player who completes a hole by a smaller number of strokes than his opponent wins the hole. If both players achieve the same score on a particular hole, the hole is tied. In match play the player leading by more holes than there are holes left to play is declared the winner.
Stableford
Foursome
Each team (consisting of two players) uses only one ball, which is played alternately by each of the two players in that team. The team partners take turns to tee off, with one partner playing the even-numbered holes and the other the odd-numbered holes.
Greensome
Both partners tee off with one ball on each hole. They then choose one of the two balls, playing it alternately until the hole is completed.
Best Ball (2s, 3s or 4s)
Each partner plays one ball from tee to green. The best score on each hole is recorded as the team's result for that hole.
Scramble
A team is made up of two, three or four players. Each player plays the first ball from the tee. The team captain then chooses whichever of the balls he feels is the best placed. Each team player then plays the second shot from the lie of the chosen ball and so on until the hole is completed.
Different starts (estimated course time on the Wispile: approx. 2 hours for nine holes)

- Every 10 minutes one team from the first tee
- At a set time all the teams tee off at the same time on the seven holes. The advantage here is that all the teams finish at the same time. This procedure can also be repeated twice for a tournament.
